Historically a pastime dominated by men, skateboarding has broken away from tradition in recent years, as more and more women pick up a board.

And with skateboarding’s debut in the Tokyo Summer Olympics right around the corner, we’re sure to see some extraordinary female talent on show at the biggest sporting event in the world.

But whether they make it to the Olympics or not, here are 5 female skateboarders you absolutely need to keep an eye on in 2021.

Just so you know, this list isn’t ranked, so make sure to remember every name!

Beatrice Domond

Bursting out of Florida with an energetic style and a genuine positivity, Domond is a breath of fresh air and a captivating skater to watch.

Growing up, Domond was the only female skater in her town, making it all the more impressive that she worked her way into the national spotlight, most recently designing a colourway for the Vans AVE Pro.

Rachelle Vinberg

A NYC skater and actress, Vinberg has seen real success from her skating — both independently and as one of the seven core members of Skate Kitchen.

In 2018, the group hit the big screen, with Vinberg playing a fictionalised version of herself as the starring role. In real life, her enthusiasm and light-hearted manner make her a joy to watch.

Lizzie Armanto

Already a famous face, Armanto is known for her creativity and signed to Birdhouse a few years ago, becoming the only female member on the team.

As she reaches new heights, Armanto is one to watch — she’s currently aiming for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Samarria Brevard

In 2017, Brevard became the first African-American woman to make the podium at the X Games — and hasn’t stopped there.

On top of inspiring technical skill and knockout style, her push to bring more women into skateboarding is unwavering, so keep an eye out for her in 2021.

Leticia Bufoni

Hailing from Brazil, Bufoni has become an icon to countless women, thanks to her determination and undeniable ability.

Having already earned her spot in skateboarding history, it’s all eyes on where she goes next.

These are just five of the incredible women making their mark on skateboarding, as it continues to evolve.

Far more than a piece of wood with wheels, skating has become a movement, pushing for equal representation and respect.
